Last Friday, May 3, 2019, the II Promitec Poultry Seminar was held at the Campestre club in the city of Bucaramanga, where Magic and Science merged in a technical and academic day that gave all attendees the opportunity to learn from international and national experts about the latest results and studies on the effectiveness of essential oils in poultry farming.
The invited international speakers were Dr. Juan Carlos Rodriguez Lecompte, professor of Veterinary Immunology and Avian Immunology and Pathology at the Atlantic Veterinary College of the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada, and Dr. José Henrique Stringhini, full professor at the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil in the Department of Animal Science of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
Dr. Rodríguez Lecompte presented to the attendees his knowledge about the Function of Intestinal Integrity, how and why it affects the immunity of birds, and in turn Dr. Stringhini presented the current situation and advances in the conformation and intestinal development of birds in the first week.
The invited national speakers were Dr. Yasmín Lopera Pérez, manager and technical director of AOXLAB S.A.S, Dr. Jaime Eduardo Parra Suescún, Professor of the Department of Animal Production at the National University of Colombia, Medellín, Dr. Tomás Antonio Madrid, Professional in Zootechnics and Master in Agricultural Sciences from the National University, Specialist in Management from the Pontificia Bolivariana University of Medellín and candidate for Doctor (cPhD) in biotechnology and Dr. Álvaro José Uribe Serrano current manager of Promitec Santander S.A.S.
The lectures given by them were the following: Results of the evaluation of phytobiotic additives in prebiotic digestion and their interaction with the microbial population and energy harvesting (Dr. Lopera), Nutritional modification of the intestinal microbiota and its influence on intestinal health in broilers (Dr. Parra), Result of the molecular expression of intestinal enzymes in chickens fed with different antimicrobial compounds and exposed to LPS from E. Coli. and the nutritional impact that this generates (Dr. Madrid) and Metabolism and pharmacokinetics of essential oils in the bird’s organism (Dr. Uribe).
During the event, the attendees enjoyed a performance “It’s not magic, it’s Science” performed by the magician Germán Arciniegas, one of the best magicians nationwide and who has been invited to important international events such as the Comedy Central Fest in 2017 where he amazed more than 2,500 people live.
